Description

Victoria Falls River Lodge’s sister camp within the Zambezi National Park is the exclusive Victoria Falls Island Lodge. This small luxury camp is located on Kandahar Island in the middle of the Zambezi River, only 10kms upstream from the world’s largest waterfall – the Victoria Falls. Access to this private island is by a boat transfer from a town jetty site, and takes less than 30 minutes. The stylish timber and glass suites are built on raised wooden platforms within the canopy, offering bright and contemporary accommodation with beautiful views of the Zambezi River.

The elegant suites consist of a large bedroom with a California king-size bed and bathroom with rain shower and free-standing bath. Wide glass sliding doors open out onto the spacious private deck, half covered and half open, with a small plunge pool, complete with sun beds. An ideal place to relax and watch the river flow by. Two of the suites has a rooftop sitting area and signature Star bed for an extra special experience, ideal for honeymooners.

Elephants and hippo are regular visitors to this palm studded Island, so for safety high wooden walkways link the rooms to the main central area where meals are served. The central area with comfy loungers, dining tables and a sunset bar are once again very stylish and face out onto the river and a white sandy beach, giving it an almost tropical island feel. With only 6 suites available, exclusivity at Victoria Falls Island Lodge is one of its unique attributes. A personal butler who caters for only 2 rooms (4 guests) at any given time and game activities with a maximum of 12 guests but often less.

Apart from sheer indulgence in luxury and relaxation there is plenty else to do. Cruises in plush boats around the island and along the river are not only very scenic but also great for game viewing and bird watching, there are numerous endemic bird species in the area. Bird watching on the island is also very popular. If you are keen you can also try your hand at catching a ferocious fighting tiger fish.

A short hop across to the mainland and you can partake in a game drive or game walk, with a professional guide within the Zambezi National Park. A guided Tour of the Falls is included but excludes the entrance fee. Canoeing is also another option onsite and of course you are only a short distance from town so you can enjoy all of the activities on offer there. Some of these activities are at an additional cost, please read facilities and services below.
