One of Mana Pools’ pioneer camps, Ruckomechi has been thrilling guests for more than two decades. Ten spacious and beautifully decorated en-suite rooms, including two family units, lie beneath the ana trees, beloved by local elephants for their nutritious seeds. Interiors are peacefully earth-toned, with hints of blue reflecting the river. The camp’s main area include a firepit for contemplation or story-swapping beneath starry night skies; a pool overlooking a broad sweep of river; an outdoor ‘bath with a view’ in a secluded, scenic spot; and the romantic Star Bed by a busy waterhole. In the words of a Ruckomechi guide: ‘…a little paradise on Earth, where the souls of nature lovers connect’.

On a vast piece of private conservation land bordering Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park, remote Ruckomechi rests on the banks of the awe-inspiring Zambezi River. The views are spectacular: the river, surrounding woodlands, and Rift Valley mountains as a backdrop.

Find your love for nature and love of life…Drift along the majestic Zambezi River, with the purple-hued Rift Valley escarpment in the distance. Marvel as elephant herds cross the waters near your boat. Hear the ancient stories of river gods. Welcome a wildlife menagerie around camp: elephants; lions; leopards; hyaenas; buffalos; African wild dogs; a range of antelope, and birds, such as bee-eaters nesting on the riverbanks or fish-eagles calling plaintively from the skies. Spend a special night in the wild, high in a Star Bed treehouse as the animals visit the waterhole below. Walk with a guide through the magical light of the albida forests, where elephants move through the trees like phantoms.
